Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule an appointment?

To schedule an appointment please see the Appointments page of the Digital ACT Studio website or stop by the studio to schedule an appointment.

Where is the Digital ACT Studio?

The Digital ACT Studio is located in the lower level of the Jackson Library.

Who can use the Digital ACT Studio?

Any current UNCG undergraduate student, graduate student, faculty member, or staff member may use the services offered at the Digital ACTS.

Do I need an appointment?

Not necessarily. You can drop in anytime during our operating hours.

What should I bring?

You should bring your project (via flash drive, laptop, CD, etc.) and some way to take notes during your consultation.

Can I bring in a group project?

Yes. Ensure that when you sign up for your appointment that you enter all of your group members’ names. We require that every group member be present to work on the whole project. If you would like to bring in just the piece of the project that you authored or designed for an individual session, that is perfectly fine as well.

What happens during a typical face-to-face Digital ACT Studio consultation?

During face-to-face consultations, Digital ACT Studio consultants (the “Digiteers”) and designers sit down together to have a directed conversation about the digital piece that the designer is working on. A consultant may ask questions regarding visual design elements, rhetoric, conventions, etc. Sessions without appointments are for 30 minutes; sessions with appointment may be up to one hour.

What types of digital projects/pieces is the Digital ACT Studio able to help me with?

The Digital ACT Studio is able to help with most all digital projects, including, but not limited to: Podcasts, PowerPoint, Prezi, videos, posters/flyers, brochures, websites, e-portfolios, blogs, public service announcements, animation, photography, etc. It is important that designers be aware that Digital ACT Studio consultants are not here to teach how to use software or programs (the Library’s DMC staff can help with that), but to assist you in making projects you are creating more persuasively and aesthetically effective.

I’m an instructor; can I schedule a tour for my class that’s working on a digital project?

To schedule an appointment please see the Appointments page of the Digital Studio website or stop by the studio to schedule an appointment.

To whom should I go if I have a suggestion about the Digital ACT Studio?

Vaughn Stewart is the Director of the Digital ACT Studio. You may email Vaughn at vrstewar@uncg.edu.
